Default Time for new tires

So Ive been trying to shop around for new tires for my 05 Altima 2.5
Problem is, everywhere I go, it seems to be way expensive.

I hear from my dad and others about how they get their tires for around 400 bucks, yet the prices Im seeing are more like 500 and higher.

Whats a good price to expect for tires? What are some good tires to look for? So far, Im really interested in the General Altimax HPs, but the cheapest quote Ive gotten on those is $580 installed.

if your on stock wheels check out yokohama yk520. you can usually get those for a decent price and they are great tires. find a deal online and go into a place to see if they will match it. i know tire dicounters is a good place to go price wise, atleast out here. dont confuse that with discount tire co. they arent what they used to be.

Yeah, we dont have Tire Discounters out here. Les Schwab is the big one, ive seen Goodyear Gemini, Discount Tires, and of course Sears.

Ill check out those Yokos though.

But I guess what Im asking is, what is a decent price?

*edit*

It sounds like these are tires made specifically for a dealer?

$500 is about right for most tires, especially depending on your size of wheel. What size are they?

christ, that's what you call money to burn. I've got 50k on a set of bridgestones. and I drive like gramma lol. the fronts are trashed though, I drove a little harder this summer. The rears have another 10k in them at least.

Well, I suppose you cold say I was burnin money..but the HTRs were only about 70 bucks a pop. Not to mention, I was driving the GTO for 123.00 a month with ZERO down. That leaves a lot of money for tires

Well I decided to go with the Altimax HPs

Found them for $522 installed + $79 for alignment and free lifetime balancing/rotation. It was the cheapest I could find around here.

Hopefully they should be a huge step above the crappy factory Continentals. Those things handled like they were made of hard plastic.

Well so far, they seem pretty kick ass.

Theyre definitely a lot quieter than the stock continentals. I think those were meant for "comfort", so they had a smooth ride I guess. The Generals take the water much better, but theyre all weather tires, so thats expected.

Theres a stretch of freeway that I take every day to work, and theres usually pools of water where cars tires carve channels into the road (so the road would look smooth and flat at night, but it was full of water). My old tires (even when new) would just slam into the water and slow down by 10 mph or so, or the car would start to hydroplane, and the engine would just rev up really high as it slides over the water. The Generals just push the water out of the way. Really nice. Cant say Ive ever had all weather tires before, so its pretty cool.

Its kind of lame to be excited by new tires, but oh well.
