Default Spirit Airlines Y/N?

So we're taking a trip to FL in April. Acting on a coworker's recommendation, the wife booked our flights on Spirit. I didn't know much about the airline until this morning when I googled it, and boy what a wake up. Horror stories left and right, so many that I went ahead and booked us on JetBlue instead. Spirit gives no refunds after 24 hours, so we're basically on the hook for 4 tickets, about $1500 total, but if Spirit is as bad as the internet says, then it's worth it to me.

That said, what do you guys think? Stick with blue and forfeit the spirit tickets, or cancel blue and sacrifice my dignity on the altar of cheap travel (also taking the chance of our itinerary being changed, our seats being separated, our flights being canceled altogether, or whatever other bullshit Spirit comes up with) ?

It is what a 2 hour flight? 1500 is a lot to give up for that short of a flight.

I would stick with spirit... That's a lot of money for a two hour flight. Horror stories happen to all airlines but think about it, if it was ALWAYS like that, they would have been out of business by now.

Where are you flying from and to and what dates? Still seems like a lot.....but that's just me.

I would still say go Spirit. I just go for the cheapest flight anymore.

Be sure to account for all the extras, like baggage. Pretty sure Spirit nickle and dimes the hell out of you.

Just asked my sister (about Spirit's safeness & reliability) who is a long time pilot (now flies for JetBlue) & was a crash investigator for the NTSB and her reply was, "I think yes as safe as safe can be, and reliable, probably no different than the rest, subject to any unforseen delay .. "

Think you'll be aight ; )

I think you should be okay, coming from a guy that only flies jet blue it's only going to be a 2-3 hour ride. How bad could it be?

Video tape it!

Spirit Airlines previous name was Value Jet. Remember the plane that crashed in the swamp back in the day?

If you are looking for a safe airline.....they don't exist. All have had incidents. Just like carmakers.

i am a huge fan of jet blue.. i think spirit dicks you over on luggage, plus their leg room sucks, but who cares if its a short flight

as far as safety, these planes are all made to stay in the air and are prone to accidents.. its not like a more expensive line will have a higher crash rating
