State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz Takes On Salt - 1010WINS.comÂ*

Quote:

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Do you care how much salt State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has in his food? Well, he cares about how much you have in yours.

The Brooklyn Democrat has introduced a bill that would completely ban the use of salt in every restaurant kitchen in New York State.

Violations would result in a $1,000 fine, according to The Daily News.

He says the bill is designed to save lives, just like laws that ban the use of trans fats and require chain restaurant to post calorie information on their menus.

That's a little excessive... you need salt (specifically sodium) to live.

Restaraunts posting food information and banning trans-fats are not bad ideas, but this is going a touch overboard.

You think?

This is another example of the Liberal mind.
If government run healthcare passes laws like these will be sure to follow.
Since the government (taxpayers) will be funding your healthcare then they can regulate how what you consume and how you live in the name of 'saving taxpayer dollars'.

though I HIGHLY doubt the bill will pass, but if in some crazy chance it does, I guarantee NYState will loose A LOT of restaurant business forcing more to eat at home and using a whole lot more salt.

So will you give up your freedom to choose to have a chef prepare your food properly because of some fatty fat fat at the table next to you? Here is a better idea that will allow freedom to reign:

People complain about fat people because of the health care costs associated with being a fatty fat fat. So stop every type of state sponsored medical care and let everyone pay for it themselves either out of pocket or through a private insurance plan. Then fatties can eat and no one would care because the only one paying for it is the fatty or the fatties family.

Or we can just go completely communist and have the state regulate every single thing we do because they know better.

Assemblyman seeking to ban all salt in restaurant cooking - Table Hopping - Steve Barnes - Restaurants and Dining Blog - timesunion.com - Albany NY

Quote:
Ortiz admits that prior to introducing the bill he did not research salt’s role in food chemistry, its effect on flavor or his bill’s ramifications for the restaurant industry. He tells me he was prompted to introduce the bill because his father used salt excessively for many years, developed high blood pressure and had a heart attack.
This guy sounds like a winner...

FTFY.
They lie on both sides of the divide, I'll spare you the long and despairing list of Republican/Conservative sponsored bills that run 180 degrees counter to rational thought.

Not to throw a wrench into your idea, but there's Gov't administered health care in 95% of countries in the rest of the world, and laws like this don't get passed, or even considered (Hell, FRANCE doesn't do this kind of thing... and they grow them pretty liberal there).

Not to throw a wrench on your idea but trans fats have already been outlawed in Europe based on this very reasoning.

I was referring to salt and unmodified animal/vegetable fats...

TFA's promote coronary disease in any amounts that are not naturally present in foods. It's like thalidomide, There's no safe dosage.
