Yeah, depending on your area, you swtich from a winter gas formulation (slightly less refined, combusts a little easier so your engine will warm up a little faster) to a summer formulation that burns more completely so you have less airborn pollution. That's one reason for the increased cost.. the other is pretty simple, oil companies are netting BILLIONS of dollars (part of the reason I'm kinda happy I invested in them).Unless the Catalytic converter isn't all it's cracked up to be, I don't understand what the change-over is for.
