^^ That guy needs to be found and tortured until dead.

Brazilian news is reporting that some ass got inside the hotel where the victims' families are staying and walked straight to the convention hall screaming that a ship had recovered survivors from the flight. The hall was full of reporters and family members and they all started cheering until minutes later when official word came saying it was all a hoax. The guy disappeared in the commotion.
That's pure evil.
I bet its cuz he was short too, so nobody saw him leave.
The thought of being in a plane crash scares the shit out of me - as much as I enjoy flying.
TWA 800 will always stick in my head as one of the scariest.
i think the Japan Airlines 747 that crashed in '85 was even more terrifying for the passengers. the plane meandered for about 30 minutes after losing its controls before crashing into a mountain. they found last wills and goodbye letters in the wreckage.

A lot of them died on the mountain in the dark cold night. Rescuers just can't reach them at the peak. A few survivors actually hear scream/moaning after impact and they all die out 1 by 1 over the night.
I don't know if there is any good way to die in an airplane crash. I've seen the aftermath of both long-term exposure and sudden death in an air disaster, and it ain't pretty either way.

Why would I care if it's pretty or not? I'm dead. Once I blackout, I could be eaten by fire ants and I wouldn't care.
Where my wife lives in Mexico, one mountain over, there was a plane that had left Mexico City and crashed into the mountain for some reason. You gotta understand, where they are, no firefighter, few police....its pretty much a free for all there in many senses. It took HOURS for rescue to occur, so many people went to the wreckage and started going through people's belongings, i.e. jewelry, wallets, etc, instead of looking for survivors. It looks like we have a smoking gun.... the searchers have found the vertical stabilizer intact.
Most people (non pilots) don't know that as the speed of an aircraft increases the deflection of the control surfaces decreases. At slow speeds you need to have full deflection of these surfaces to maintain control, but at 600 mph they only need to deflect a few degrees to have a big impact.
On the A330 the flight computer automatically reduces the control inputs as speed increases. If the aircraft was flying at say 520 mph, but the air speed indicators thought that it was flying much slower the computer could in theory apply too much control deflection in response to a control inputs from one of the pilots causing the tail of the aircraft to be ripped off.
I think we are much closer to understanding what happen to this aircraft.

If you're talking about this image:
It's just an example, not an actual crash photo. The Brazilian media has nothing about finding the vertical stabilizer. Also, if they were to find the "rudder" intact, it would be far from a smoking gun... At least to the investigators. To the news agencies on the other hand, it would be made out as such... Just like they've done about lightning and turbulence before.
I stand corrected... The caption says that is from from flight 447... the rudder is not intact though and a piece that size could have broken off on impact...

What you've heard are just guesses.... All they know at the moment is that the plane sent signals indicating system failures, auto-pilot disengage, and loss of cabin pressure. Nothing more. As far as passing out, they would in a few seconds if there was explosive decompression. They will be able to tell from autopsies. If they find sea water in the lungs, chances are the victims were still alive after they hit the water. They will also look for burn marks, ante-morten cuts and bruises, etc...
If there was explosive decompression @ 35,000 ft, you won't be looking for lungs.. not intact at least... assuming the air got knocked out of them, the lungs and internal organs tend to get crushed, if there is a blockage in the pulmonary system (like the throat closing up), the lungs are going to explode right along with everything else.
The fall from 35,000 isn't going to leave much, and most of the injuries are going to be peri-mortem. Even if the person died @ 35,000ft they could still sustain injuries 20 minutes after death. Unless the salt water is incredibly cold, it'll be a crap-shoot as to whether or not the people died in the air because salt water itself makes tissue decompose a lot more rapidly than regular air or even fresh water.
The signals that were sent were automated, so it's still up in the air (pardon the pun) as to what happened. They're going to be pulling up debris for a while before they figure out exactly what happened. As far as the 'not pretty' bit: I'm talking about figuring out what happened.
