The seller was really shady after the fact and lied multiple times. Once I was certain Paypal was not going to give me a guarantee, I decided I would be better off with a different equipment than what I wanted instead of no equipment and possibly no money.
It wasn't my money any way. I had bought the equipment for a friend and was acting as the end user... he also agreed we were better off cutting our losses than taking a chance with a dishonest seller and no guarantee of refunds from paypal (we would have had to send the equipment back and wait for the seller to say everything was OK before issuing a refund for any amount he felt was "fair").
Had I used a credit card to fund the purchase, I would have disputed the charges with the CC company the minute the seller told me I was lying about getting the wrong equipment.
