Default Engine!!!

SOOO i really want to clean the engine on my '97 sentra, and my dad doesn't think its a good idea, is it an alluminum block? is there any way i can clean it?

i would post in the auto deatail section i think their was a post about that. ir emember he said to use a pressure washer cause it more air than water and cover the electrical parts wiht foil ill see if i can get u a link.
