Default 2009 Maxima.....ugly interior!!!

I was really looking forward to the release of the new 2009 Maxima. When I first saw the photos of the exterior my jaw dropped! When I saw the interior photos I was extremely disappointed. What's up with that "cheesy" looking dash and those ugly oval shaped air conditioner vents? I'm specifically referring to the area under the Nav system. This is just flat out ugly, outdated and cheap looking. Are the Nissan designers smoking crack? Do they bother to test market these designs before releasing them? The seats and everything else inside look great. How could they go so wrong with the dash? Hard to believe these are the same folks responsible for the gorgeous interior in the Infiniti G35. I seriously wanted to like this car, but I have to be in love with the interior just as much as the exterior. I came close to buying the Infiniti, but the leg room (or lack of it) was ridiculous. Now it's back to the drawing board for me.

Anybody else out there agree...disagree?

For starters, I'd redesign those old fashion knobs. Get rid of the silver "teardop" framing around the stereo and climate control knobs. It's just plain ugly! The oval shaped outboard air vents don't make any sense at all. They look completely out of place. Next, that whole portion of the dash should be sloped on a greater angle. This would not only be more aestetically pleasing, but puts the controls at a 90 degree angle to the driver's eyes. Look at the dash on the Infiniti G35. This is a good example of what I'm talking about. Notice how the dash has a smooth, curved transition to the door panels on the 2008 Subaru Tribeca below. This is what I call a contemporary design. It's no wonder they've won awards for their interior.

the lines flow nicely in the tribeca, but it looks like those lines take up a lot of room. the cockpit looks awefully tight. i've never been in one, but it looks like you can't even move your knees once you're seated.

Default Not So

Looks can be deceiving. In the photo you can't see the distance from dash to seat. My wife has the Tribeca. We looked at a ton of SUV's from Mazda, Ford, Acura, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc. The curve in the dash does not cut into the legroom at all. We specifically test drove them all with "me" in the passenger's seat because all of the others have ridiculous leg room. I fit in the Tribecca with room to spare. I'm 6' 4" with a 36" inseam! I haven't found a car or SUV that has leg room comparable to that of the Tribeca. Don't take my word for it. Go try one on. I'm curious to see how I'll fit in the new Maxima.

we have a 2008 tribeca also, great functional interior, and the dash is nice, but I hate the steering wheel, it's like driving a school bus at the angle it is. but I like the new maxima interior a lot and don't really find it to be much different than the new g35 interior in style
