Default 1998 Maxima Bose stereo

Hello to all.
I am new to this forum and this will be my first post. I am hoping someone out there can help me, as I am sure you all have dealt with the same thing. I have a 1998 Maxima with the Bose stereo system. I think the system sounds GREAT! but there is one problem. I cant hook up my Ipod. I do not like FM modulators. I want it hard wired into the system either by Aux. port or something. So, i am faced with 2 options.
1: Wire an Aux cable into the stereo.
This is why I am asking if anyone knows where I can find a wiring diagram for the stereo to see if that is even possible. Can anyone help?

2: replace the head unit. From what I understand the system does not have an intergrated amp The speakers have the amps located at them. Does this mean that I would have to
a: rewire every speaker to bypass the amp or
b: find a headunit with preamp outputs?
Which would sound better? I do not want to degrade the sound quality of my car, but for the love of god I cant stand being without my IPOD!
Any help anyone cna offer would be greatly apreciated.

Dannie

i think your best option would be to buy a headunit that you can just plug your ipod in. if you got circuit city around they hook it up for free if you get their headunits or best buy.

I believe I cant just swap out the headunit because the BOSE system headunit does not have an amp. Aftermarket headunits like this one have amps in them. So because the Bose speakers are self amplified, I cant just put in an aftermarket headunit. I would be sending an amplified signal to speakers that are then amplifying them again and this would distort the sound. Is this correct?

Thanks for the help Sergey. I actually found this device AUXNISSV2. [Only Registered Users Can See LinksClick Here To Register]

It connects to the CD changer (9 pin port) on the back of the stock BOSE stereo. It converts it to an AUX port for your IPOD or DVD player or any device. The only downfall is you cant run this and a CD Changer at the same time, but in this day in age, who really changes out CD's anymore.
Just thought I would share this since connecting an IPOD is prety much a necessity now a days.

I ran the cable throught the center console (since the car was disassembled to install this stuff) and drilled a small hole in the cup holder. I put in a rubber grommet and now teh cable connector sites in my cup holder on a retactable cord ready for my ipod.

If you change your head unit you will need a Bose Adaptor to work with it and it will allow the music to go to the speakers that are amplifed by Bose. Works fine everytime but is expsnive cause I think the adaptor is like $70.00
