Default Backfires through Intake/Exhaust

I just got done replacing the engine in my 240 with another 2.4. I've tried setting the timing correctly, but apparently I'm still off by a bit or something. Any way I try to set the timing on the thing it backfires through either the Intake or Exhaust, but will not fire up for the life of it. I have the firing order correct, 1-3-2-4 right?

I know I am so close to getting it running that it hurts. Any suggestions are welcome guys I really need help on this one!

My haynes manual for my Altima says the firing order is 1-3-4-2.

Hm, that may be what I"m missing. My chiltons says its 1-3-2-4. I'll have to go out and check that. Maybe it'll fire right on up then.

Could be a typo, report back either way though.

Sorry for the delay in posting back. We did have the firing order wrong, so that was corrected. Also it was 180 degrees out of time as well. So with those two things fixed it was running but not well. A further look at the repair manual for the car stated that the timing needed to be at 18-22 degrees BTDC, so I re-timed it again and now it runs great!

Not too bad for a $150 dollar original price, and $850 for an engine eh? I think I made off like a bandit!
