Default Dipping temp gauge

The needle will dip on acceleration and I don't know why? I looked online and found out that its most likely the coolant temp sensor so I am going to replace that tomorrow waiting on the part from Nissan. How long can I drive like this? And here's a pic of the sensor as it is now on my car doesn't look like its been changed ever ImageUploadedByTapatalk1372087621.250429.jpg

You should be able to drive the car fine as long as you know for sure that it isn't running hot and the sensor is just reporting bad data to the gauge.

You may also see a check engine light pop or a stored code if the ECU is receiving enough bad inputs.
