Default Navigation problem I am having

I recently purchased a 2004 G35 Coupe and can not get the navigation system to calculate a route. I get an error message when I select an address or nearby point of interest - "route was not succesfully calculated." Everything else seems to be working, map display, where am I, listing of addresses and POI's, and even the green status bar is visible (and moving) while the nav system is "trying" to calculate the route.
I have reviewed the navigation system manual but could not seem to find the issue and fix. I feel like this is a trival matter and I am overlooking something simple but have not had any luck yet. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

odd.. i've had that problem once or twice in my old G but a simple restarting of the car fixed it.

is the navigation cd scratched? sounds like a software issue. if its a hardware issue resetting the car by unplugging the battery might help. those are just my guesses

Flash the firmware on the unit with the most recent disk. Check around, if you don't have the DVD's you should be able to track them down outside the dealership. It uses a dual-layer DVD, so be careful of people who make copies of the originals, it has to be done with a dual-layer DVD writer.

Another possibility is someone mixed map disk version with wrong firmware - they have to match. I don't have the specific version numbers memorized, but I do know they cannot be mixed.

If you're getting a green color on the satellite pic on the display, then the receiver is working. You can also check under the settings for the NAV and see the specific number of signals you're getting.

If that's not working, then you have mechanical, not software problems.
