My passion
I've been into car audio even before I could drive, for going on 13 years now! I love the pay off with the hard work put in!

Alpine CDA 9887, running active to MTX 4300x, and 2300x, 4300x powering Velocity VC100 tweeters and DA175 midbass, and the 2300x powering a 12" Velocity VW1200 in a custom firberglass box, soon to be replaced with some rear door subs.

clean. Question, I'm a noob with car audio, and used to have your basic cheapo 10 inch sub setup but my old amp recently fried. I now have a 12 inch JL sub now in box similar to yours and I wired everything up already with 8 gauge wiring. Which amp would you guys recommend that wont break the bank. I don't mind buying used, but my budget is only about $100.

That's a tough one, at $100 you should probably look used. I can possibly get you something, but you would need to give me a lil more information, like the voice coil configuration of the 12" JL.

May I ask why you decided on rear door subs as opposed to your current fiberglassed enclosure or even the subs in the rear shelf like you did before? It definitely sounds interesting, esp if you feel it will sound better than your past setups.
Also, whats your opinion on those Daytons you are using for midbass? I am pretty set on picking up my Rainbow SLCs when the weather gets better, but I have seen a few people running that particular model in their front stage, esp those who are active.
Thanks for the info, and that system is clean as usual. Keep us updated + pics please.

I've decided to go with a completely empty trunk, no rear deck subs, no subs in the corners nothing, no amp in there either. I want more of a stealth install, with a little less weight. The fiberglass box with that sub sounds phenomenal, and I love it. It takes all of 1200rms that its rated and and feels like it wants more. I don't even want to sell it, but I will have no practical use for it once I have my 8" (10 yr old BNIB solo-barics) in. In a well sealed and deadened door they should provide me with the perfect low end compliment to the mids.
These mids are GREAT. They are 8 ohm drivers though so you do need a good amount of power on tap to have some headroom. They play all the way down toe 40hz in my doors and I can cross my sub over that low if wish or even turn it off and get acceptable sub bass.
The SLC's are a GREAT choice, especially the new NG with the CAL25 tweeter now incorporated. The midbass is phenomenal for such a well priced set as well. If you plan to go active, the options are pretty much endless which is great because my midbass's and tweeters cost me a total of $40 SHIPPED! (Picked up the mids for $25 shipped and picked up the tweeters for $15 shipped!)
Let me know if you have any other questions.
