Default Confusion or not?

Disclaimer: Long and confusing post. ;)

Tonight I felt the need to tackle an issue I've been having since my aftermarket deck got stolen.
the loss of signal to the rear speakers.
Since the theft some time ago, I had since re-installed the factory CD/Tape/radio.

After removing my deck from the center console I soon realized that there is a connector missing.
There should be two white connectors one 10pin and one 6 pin. I currently have the 10 pin intact but apparently missing the 6pin. Of which I assume is still attached to my former deck in the hands of some thief. ;)

After some digging around I came upon something rather confusing. (the point of the thread)

Brief history: I bought my car used back in 03 from the dealer. It had aftermarket speakers in both the front and rear as well as some aftermarket wires.

I wanted to see what was going on with these wires, after studying the wiring diagram from my FSM, something wasn't adding up.

I started by following the sends out of the 10pin connector for the deck, first being the Front Right and Front Left sends which are spliced into aftermarket wires that are ran all to the rear of the vehicle and spliced into the factory wires marked for the rears respective to Right and Left.

I return to the front console area to find that the other end of the Factory rear wires are spliced to the respective R/L leads to the front speakers. ( the original factory wires had been cut if you are confused.) Its like they made the front sends REALLY LONG. WHY?

Also there are 2 sets of loose aftermarket sends routed from the front to the rear and connected to the rear speakers. I assume these are the ends that are for the 6pin connector which is for the rear speakers. (the one I'm missing)

Note: I assume the above is correct regarding the connection of aftermarket wires because its the only plausible scenario I can come up with. Also I didn't actually check the lines to be certain, didn't want to jmmy-rig the voltmeter to reach from the front to rear. ;)

So with all that said. Whats the POINT of the second set of aftermarket wires? Why the long send? Am I missing something? Did i Confuse you?

BTW. I've reconnected all the wires to their respective mates. As if it was back to stock. I'm just curious if i was missing some special setup or if the owner before me was on something when doing their setup.

Alright man, I got to say I'm kinda confused. You said that your factory wires are cut, does this mean that a wiring harness wasn't used with the install? And if you factory wires are cut, do still have the factory harnesses? (I imagine you don't). If you have no radio harness from you factory, your best bet would to purchase another aftermarket radio, and re-hardwire it.

I don't know if this will help, but it's the specific wiring in the car, and in the Metra harness 70(and/or 80)-7550 wiring harness:

1Specific speaker wire(s) spec.:

Left Front +: Brown
Left Front -: Black/red
Right Front +: Light green
Right Front -: Black/yellow
Left Rear +: Orange
Left Rear -: Black/pink
Right Rear +: Blue
Right Rear -: Black/white

+12V DC Battery(Constant): Pink
Switched Accessory: Blue
Illumination: Red/yellow & red/green
Dimmer: Red/yellow

Specific wiring color code in Metra 70(and/or 80)-7550 wiring harness:

Left Front +: White
Left Front -: White/Black
Right Front +: Gray
Right Front -: Gray/Black
Left Rear +: Green
Left Rear -: Green/Black
Right Rear +: Violet
Right Rear -: Violet/Black

12V Ignition/Acc.: Red
12V Batt/Memory: Yellow
Ground: Black
Power Antenna: Blue
Amp Turn-On: Blue/White
Amp Ground: Black/White
Illumination: Orange
Dimmer: Orange/White

Thanks Beecee. I also have the FSM handy so were good there. I still have the factory wiring in the car. My confusion lied with, why all the aftermarket wires going to the rear.

I have the harness, what I'm missing is the second connector that the rear speakers are connected that goes to the deck. Thats a 6pin connector.

After much deliberation with some of the guys here, we've pretty much concluded that there had to have been an amp in the trunk at one point in time before I bought the car 5 years ago. WIth that the previous owner was too lazy putting the wires back to original configuration and left it in it's ghetto state.
Thanks

Alright, I think I'm following you a little more now lol. Sounds like you just need another car harness, or if you wanted to put the factory radio back in, just unplug the car harness out of the factory harness, and the factory harness go into the factory radio (obviously). But I'm sure you already figured that out. As long as you have two harness coming out of you factory wiring, you should be fine.

if you want to check the wiring with a meter, you can do it w/o running your meter leads from the front of the car to the rear. for example, if you want to check if a pair of wires is really going to the correct rear speaker, you can disconnect the wires at the speaker and short them together (with no power, of course). then go to the front with your meter. the pair of speaker wires that reads a short will be the wires that are routed to that speaker.

It sounds to me like the 2nd harness was never used, and it was cut off from the factory. The second harness only holds the rear speaker wires, the antenna wire, and I believe the ground.... I can't remember So, they probably just ran new wires to the back straight from the deck.

Its all good. you Still missed my reason for posting. All of the above I am aware of in regards to a stock setup.
And now i think i am understanding why the owner before me did what they did. Possibly had an amp at one time.

As for the Harness and stock head unit, I've had the stock unit in the car since the theft a year or two ago. But haven't had signal to the rear speaker due to not having the second connector, something I realized when attempting to find out why there was no signal, because it was ripped off along with the aftermarker unit i had at the time.

Hope that helps out. ;) And possibly clear up some more confusion. Seems we got off track here.

No worries.
It all worked before. And after reconfiguring the wire setup back to factory it still works.
But the difference is that now the front speakers are a little louder now. Less distance for the signal to travel.

All I need now is a 6pin connector and I'm set. ;)

So I figured out all my mess. i went down to the Pick and pull and got some new harnesses out of a 95 alty. granted the wire colors don't match but thats what a sharpie and some tape is for to label with. Only cost me $2 bucks to get in and another buck for the 2 harnesses. Score.

So my audio is back to stock design. No more funky cables going around the world and back to simply just go two feet from the head unit. So now I if I want I know everything works in the stock setup I have the option to expand again.

Sorry for all the confusion that causes more confusion than necessary. Carry on.
