Default Canadian 2008 Altima 2.5 SL fog light install

Hi there,

I know there have been a thousand 'how to' threads on this so I will keep it short and sweet. I asked my dealer if it would be possible 'at any price' to remove the fog blanks and put OEM fogs with the upgraded light stalk in my car - they said 'no way'. My dealer claimed that we would need the car to go back to Nissan to have this done and it would be a small fortune IF it were even possible. They claimed the wiring would be a nightmare and that the 3.5SE switch wouldn't be compatible, etc. Ok now here's the real story...

I bought the light stalk from a 3.5SE and installed it literally in 2 minutes. I ordered OEM foglights for a 2008 3.5SE and here's what happened:

I pulled 3 screws closest to the mud flap and one fender plug/rivet and then pulled down the splash/rock guard enough to be able to get a small 10mm socket driver in there. The bolt came off dead easy (both sides took me maybe 5 minutes total to get the blanks out).

The fogs themselves were installed in maybe 10-15 minutes. The plugs for the lights were already right there even though the dealer said they weren't. Nissan uses **very** light tape to keep the harnesses attached to another loom so they don't dangle around. I just pulled the tape with my hand gently and the plugs were free. 2 minutes later the fogs were fully operational.

Don't let anyone tell you this is difficult. Even if you are very uncomfortable with tools getting your hands into confined places, etc., this will only take you half an hour to an hour max (including installation of the light stalk). I now have the 2.5SL that I wanted not the one I was 'stuck' with. Don't get me wrong - I loved the car as it was but Nissan should realize this as an option and offer it as an upgrade. They will get satisfied customers and they'll line their pockets at the same time. All told this cost me about $250ish total but I was able to get a very good deal on the lights.

Thanks and I hope this helps anyone who might need further clarification.
Andrew.

Just so others know.... THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU'RE PREWIRED....

Check the other threads to find out if you're prewired... if not... just run a separate switch... and use a relay and tap into the parking lights... (if you want them to auto on and still be able to turn them off...)
