Default Auto mode or Manual mode?

Is there really any benifit to putting it in manual mode. The shifts dont feel any faster and I'm guessing Nissan put the shift points in the most power effective spots while in Auto mode. Anyone ever seen or heard of any gains or benifits of either mode? Ive actually ran a few cars in Manual mode and I think I probably let it wind out a little too long on a couple occasions but it didnt effect the outcome. Auto mode is so simple...just floor it! Wheel spins a little annoying but once you learn to feather the gas...its cool.

auto mode on most of those types of transmissions would be the fastest. 5 speed auto right?

The manual mode is more to give you that "feel" than to actually serve any purpose performance wise. Auto mode is the way to go if you're talking about runnin' your ride, period.

Yep. 5 Speed.

I use manual every now and then - especially on the highway when I want to break out and pass someone...Drop it into 3rd and let it rip. You're right about letting it whine out a bit more though Rick, but the VQ sounds so good going up the RPM scale.

Also when I get closer to work (it's an industrial area - clear streets early in the morning) - downshift into 2nd around a turn so I can accelerate out of it sort-of-thing...

Just be careful doing any kind of agressive downshifts during hard decel. There have been a few members/threads that have noted an unhealthy late shift/slam into 1st on the 2nd to 1st downshift (myself included)...

Still isn't as good as a true manual, but with a wife who doesn't know how to drive with a clutch (not that she drives it much anyway), and a 30 mile commute, I guess it's the next best thing ( a dual clutch GT-R wouldn'e be bad either)...
